Set in Oregon during the Great Depression, the film follows battle-scarred veteran Samuel Murphy, who is separated from his daughter and sent to a brutal work camp. Warden Clancy offers him early release in exchange for smuggling gold through 100 miles of wilderness. Murphy leads a group of prisoners on the dangerous mission while facing harsh conditions and locals taking payment to watch their movements.
