Set in the working-class Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles, Walter Thompson-Hernández’s family drama follows Big Ant, who is recently out of prison and trying to reconnect with his wife, Lozita, and their adolescent son, Lil Ant. Lil Ant is a sensitive artist who begins seeing surreal, almost spectral visions of boys drifting through the neighborhood. Combining social and magical realism with documentary detail and allusions to Greek mythology, the film explores the relationship between a conflicted father and his restless son.
