The Mavericks are an eclectic rock and country group founded in Miami in 1989. After a period of success in the 1990s and a hiatus beginning in 2003, the band reunited in 2012 and later marked its 30th anniversary. The group’s first all-Spanish album, En Español, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard. The 12-track collection includes boleros, mariachi, Afro-Cuban classics, salsa, ska, and norteño, along with the band’s country, rock, and Tex-Mex influences. Seven songs are drawn from the Latin American songbook, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo.
