Part of Weekend Classics: 1941’s Greatest Hits, this satire follows Hollywood director John L. Sullivan, who believes he must experience hardship firsthand to direct a screen tragedy. Disguised as a homeless man, he travels across the country and befriends a cynical woman played by Veronica Lake. His experiences expose him to the cruelty faced by people living in poverty and lead him to reconsider what they need most. Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake star in the film, written and directed by Preston Sturges.
