Robin Vuchnich: In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers

About this event

New-media artist Robin Vuchnich’s interactive, light-based installation draws on Henry David Thoreau’s collection of dried and pressed plants from Concord, Massachusetts. A projected grid visualizes research on species decline, showing that more than half of the plants Thoreau collected are now declining toward local extinction. The installation also includes a three-wall projection of floral species in decline around Walden Pond. Sensors respond to visitors’ movements, altering the projected fields of flowers; when movement stops, the flowers return to their full display. Organized by the Frist Art Museum.
