About this event

Artist & Creative Community tickets $20-$25 “Becca Hoback is creating and performing the most exciting choreography in town.” — Nashville Scene “Ujima is an accomplished choreographer, and the founder of a radically inclusive troupe called shackled feet DANCE!.” — Nashville Scene Some of Nashville’s most compelling artists take center stage in a dynamic double bill of entirely original premieres merging dance, film, live music, and theatrical power. Statuesque performer Becca Hoback embodies her fluid, expressive choreography with mesmerizing intensity. Solus, her collaboration with composer and cellist Kaitlyn Raitz, is a dance/film/music triptych that beautifully explores a search for the sacred and profound, culminating her triumphant multi-year Sacral Series. Celebrated choreographer and community icon Shabaz Ujima reunites with longtime collaborator Thea Jones under the banner of shackled feet DANCE!. Synergy features an intergenerational ensemble of dancers and prominent jazz musicians led by trumpeter, composer, and visual artist Rod McGaha. Joyous and expansive, the work celebrates the liberation of body and mind through Black Classical Music — the term Miles Davis preferred for jazz. Taking us through a spectrum of emotions and dance styles, this dynamic evening creates a space for empowerment and a powerful reminder of the importance of personal autonomy.
